RESUMO

The target of this study was to compare the results of breath analysers and "lege artis" laboratory blood examinations when determining alcohol levels. This was then used to determine whether any differences exist between the two methods, and how large these differences are. 610 cases from 11 workplaces in the Czech Republic and Slovakia were analysed. The type of breath analyser was not taken into consideration. All cases had to be in the elimination phase. Difference of time between breath test and blood test were rectified through the use of reverse recomputation. It was detected that only 20.8% of the results of respiratory analyser tests correspond to the detected real alcohol level in blood. The maximum difference when a respiratory analyser measured more than a blood test was 1.34 g x kg(-1). and the maximum difference when the analyse measured less was 1.86 g x kg(-1).

RESUMO

Capillary electrophoresis was employed to determine the principal quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids, sanguinarine and chelerythrine, in two plant extracts and one oral hygiene product. Phosphate-Tris buffer of pH 2.5 was used as a background electrolyte, limits of detection were 3 micromol/l(-1) (sanguinarine) and 2.4 micromol,l(-1) (chelerythrine) using UV detection at 270 nm. The method, which correlated well with HPLC, is suitable for serial determination of sanguinarine and chelerythrine in plant products and pharmaceuticals.

RESUMO

This article reviews chemical, pharmacological, and toxicological research relating to two principal benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids, namely sanguinarine and chelerythrine, in the period 1980-1994. The medical applications of these alkaloids in relation to their biological activities are discussed.

RESUMO

Polymerization of 17 beta-estradiol was performed. The final product with molecular weight of about 30,000 was used as antigen to immunization of mice CBA x C 57 B1 10/F1. The obtained antiserum was tested for the presence of antibodies to polyestradiol. It was applied to immunohistochemical detection of free estrogen receptors in breast carcinoma samples fixed with formaldehyde and embedded in paraffin. The advantages and disadvantages of this method and other perspectives of its application to routine examination of estrogen receptors for clinical practice are discussed.

RESUMO

Common procedure of isolation of isoquinoline alkaloids and the novel separation techniques are discussed and exemplified. The methods used for determination of isoquinoline alkaloids are reviewed, including GC, HPLC, TLC, immunochemical methods and some special techniques. The selected examples of applications are included.

RESUMO

The isotachophoretic separation of some isoquinoline alkaloids in acid-base partially purified extracts from Bulgarian FUMARIA PARVIFLORA was studied. The electrolyte system for model mixtures of alkaloids (-)-stylopine, (-)-canadine, coptisine, berberine, protopine, cryptopine, chelidonine, bulbocapnine, papaverine, parfumine and for the plant extracts contained the leading ion K (+) (0.01 M), counter ion CH (3)COO (-), pH (L) 5.5, and the terminating ion H (+) (acetic acid 0.01 M). In the plant extracts, protopine and parfumine were quantitatively determined during F. PARVIFLORA growth and development in the term May-June 1984.
